About Ed:
• Ed Lantzer was born in Kalkaska, Michigan, on February 12, 1932. He went to live with Jesus on December 29, 2009.
• Ed was the eighth generation in his family to do marquetry, and was taught the skill by his father at a young age by using cubed (square) shaped wood. Using right angles, Ed was proficient at making game boards, boxes, tables, etc. At age 15, Ed's father told
him to, "find his own angle." Ed chose the diamond shape with 30 and 60 degree angles that allowed him more freedom to create curved designs.
• While Ed was able to read, he could not write due to brain damage he suffered as a child from scarlet fever. Ed could not sketch the panels or draw anything on paper. Each design was created and calculated entirely in his mind.
• Ed was a lifetime Bible scholar and has also studied Biblical History, cultures and language. He was able to speak English, Hebrew and Greek and has incorporated all of this into the exhibit.
• Ed spent many years living by grace as a homeless person. During that time he suffered from heart disease and had a pacemaker installed, and had most of his stomach removed from stomach cancer.
• One of Ed's original inspirations for his work was C.S. Lewis, whose midlife conversion to Christianity inspired him to write books such as Mere Christianity and The Chronicles of Narnia --- books that could lead others to Christ. Ironically, the first time all 30 panels were put on display was an exhibit at the C.S. Lewis Festival in Petoskey in 2008.
